How could we find a middle ground on junk mail?

If you think about what goes into making junk mail and it's effect on the environment and how much energy we spend on delivery, recycling, trash removal, mailing costs...etc.. Is it really ALL worth it? How much of what you buy is a result of the junk mail we get?

Most of my junk mail goes into the dumpster.  We do, however, watch for specific stores to run sales or print up special coupons.

I'd guess 90% is junk, 10% is useful - in my household.  But it might be closer to 95/5 some weeks.
