Question:

How could women cut up a live pig for pork?

Are there any females who have raised a domesticated pig for a feast and have butchered it themselves with friends?

Or would be eager to do later?

No offence to pet lovers, but I think a pig is a great animal and yes it is sad to kill. It's amazing how much fresh pork it produces and how delicious it tastes than getting from shops.

Unfortunately we are not physically as gifted as men at butchering but it would be great to find various ways on how females could do it too without a rifle but knives etc?

  1. No OFFENSE, but it depends on how hungry you are.

  2. get a real man to do it for you

  3. My great grandpa raised hogs but he took them to the butcher.  I used to help him feed them. I wouldn't butcher it myself.

  4. I can't tell you how to do it because i can't watch when my husband does it for Bar-B-ques. It really is good eating though.

  5. Much the same as a deer, I'd think (I don't do that but my sister does).  However, as a kid growing up we'd hear the pigs being slaughtered on the next farm over, which today would be called inhumane.  They were killed AFTER they were hoisted up by the back hocks.  While this allowed the blood to be collected easier, it was harder on the pig.

Old fashioned ways dictated that the body of the pig be put into boiling water or have boiling water poured over it to loosen the hair so the body could be 'scraped'.  But if you're cutting up everything, possibly that's not needed now?  They used to do quarters back then, not immediately cut and wrap the animal.

However you'll need running water, to make sure there's no hair on the meat (we had an inexperienced butcher do a cow once and got meat donated from that--there was cow hair on the roasts....).

Luck on hearing from others who have worked with pigs--but I suspect anyone who's diced up a deer carcass can give you pointers (or there'll be a 'how to' on the internet somewhere).
