How could you explain telekinetic powers?

If you keep scientific laws in mind (conservation of energy, law of gravity...) how could you explain telekinesy?

I know there is no proof it exists but I wondering if it would be possible.

  1. I would explain it as a magic trick. If someone really believes they can do it,then a delusion.

  2. its only us winged messengers swimming around in the subconscious part of the brain. Thats' all, sorry for the let down.

  3. Control over energy.

  4. Fraud.

Occam's Razor-If it is the simpler explanation (the person is deceiving you with a magic trick) or the complex explanation (telekinesis is real) the simpler explanation is the correct one.

Your mind cannot generate the physical power to lift objects independently of a physical apparatus!

And, please, paranormal community, don't talk of "ENERGY" in a nonscientific sense.

We know how much electricity the human mind generates and you just don't get more measurable bang for your buck than electromagnetism. That electricity, even if it were transmitted by some unknown means, would still need a physical apparatus to act on. We would be able to measure the apparatus's electricity. We can do this.

You are right, no proof exists! For a reason!

But you can give the illusion of telepathic powers!

V.B.- I'm actually pretty hard to offend.

That's part of the beauty of the whole scientific method.  it encourages free discussion without getting personally attached to ideas merely because they are yours!

BUT, I hear "believers" use the word ENERGY all the time.

Well, what kind of Energy? Kinetic? Thermal? After all this IS the Science and Mathematics section!

Anything you actually throw from your body we are able to measure.

This includes (real) thermal energy generated by our bodies.

I will not replace ENERGY with electromagnetic force. It's up to people who claim that this ENERGY exists. It's not up to skeptics to disprove anything.

I don't mean to offend, but in Science (and this is the Science section) we don't take these kinds of things personally.

I certainly didn't.  It's all just part of free discussion.

  5. It cannot be explained.

  6. I dare to differ, and disagree with TR.  Telekinetic power comes from the same place that super enhancement strength comes.

Have you ever seen an accident where something fell on a

child, friend , or relative of someone standing nearby?

And watching that person be able to grab and throw, or lift the object off of them as if it were a piece of paper?  (even if it were a car, safe, or piano!)  The shock of seeing them in that state, activates a very small sector of the brain, and the adrenal gland, affecting the whole body with a protective

out put of energy.  In some persons, that sector of the brain is  active without the inducement of shock.  ESP centers

study telekinetic powers, and if you find a valid ESP center

to learn about it, the center will not try to sell you on the facts,

they will just state their findings. ( I believe that this energy,

is some how a portion of ones actual soul--although I have no evidence to support the theory.)

(Annakeymagic- please replace the word energy with elecric

magnet type force-it is acting on or being thrown from one's body- I don't mean to offend!)

  7. Not only is there no proof it exists, there is not the slightest evidence it exists.

And, as you say, it would be contrary to many physical laws.

    .

  8. As you say, there is no proof it exists, which is true. Until there is some evidence the telekinesis does exist, there probably isn't much point in trying to imagine ways it could be explained. And in fact, there is nothing known about either physics or the human mind that would suggest such abilities could be possible. Since existing knowledge does not make any predictions about the possibility of TK, scientific explanations are not really possible nor needed at this point. As I said above, it's currently just imagination and make believe.

  9. As in all science there is no proof of anything including telekinesis (now called psychokinesis in most of the current research literature).

However, there is evidence for the existence of psychokinesis from experiments conducted as far back as the 1930's on falling dice by what is now the Rhine Research Center (http://www.rhine.org) and human intentions has been demonstrated to have have effects on machines (usually random number generators) for more than 20 years at Princeton University via the PEAR program http://www.princeton.edu/~pear/

While this work is not without its critics very few of of the criticisms are published in peer reviewed journals as is the actual research. Some members of the Parapsychological Association are also still conducting experiments on psychokinesis so a link to that page is included as well.

There is an attempt to link a theory involving the effects of found in quantum physics, in particular non-locality, and observational effects, with psychokinesis.  While it is premature to conclude a link it is an area of research to be explored.

  10. It isn't possible - it's only sleight of hand and mass hypnosis

  11. Ok, I will play along. Lets assume that telekinetic powers were real. One of the current theories of gravity, proposed by Einstein, is the String Theory. Its kind of complex, but basically our universe is like 3 dimensional fabric.

If we somehow had the ability to manipulate this fabric with out minds, perhaps a chemical reaction, we could cause things to move through space by bending the fabric of space itself.

On the otherhand, in reality, nobody has been able to demonstrate it, aside from chalatans and illusionists. The Randi Million Dollar prize still stands.

  12. There is no mechanism for it.  That alone is pretty convincing.

  13. i have no idea, but for sure sometimes The Devil plays tricks on us!

  14. This is a popular feature of not Science Fiction, but Fantasy masquerading as Science Fiction.

We humans dream of fantastical powers, and there are genre's of "literature" that cater to the human dreams.

Perhaps you can think of this as a way to tap into some kind of natural energy in the universe.

When I walk into my home, I flick a switch and there is light into my apartment, because I have tapped into an infrastructure powered by electricity.  I walk a short distance and adjust a dial, and now there is cold air flowing from air conditioner.

We mortal humans may have a hard time explaining how a light bulb works, how an air conditioner works, but we trust that other humans have figured it out.  We do not need to understand all the inner workings of the internal combustion engine, to get a driver's license for a motor vehicle.

So with magical powers ... our brain connects to "something" that "flips a switch" and power llows, somewhere.  Just because lots of people cannot explain how it works, does not mean it don't exist.

However difficult it is to prove a negative, it is easy to prove the positive.  If someone is able to do this stuff, they just need to hover over some major city, preferably naked so everyone can see they not using any instrumentation.

But there may be some reason why they not do this, some financial gain to keeping it a secret that they can "lift" money for example.
