  1. I live in Scotland . Have a look at the Historic Scotland web site. You can take out memnership ( details on web site ) it is relatively cheap and gives you free admission to all their  buildings  including places like Stirling and Edinburgh Castles You will note from the web site you can check out what events are scheduled  for October There are costume pageants at Stirling and Edinburgh .

    www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/

    Enjoy yourself !

  2. okay im scottish

and i dont wanna be mean to you here

    or be racist or whatever

    but im guessing your american

but beleive it or not as you all seem to think

we are NOT all haggis eating kilt wearing, bagpipe playing

    warriors

we are like the rest of the uk

and the only load of green land and castles etc is the highlands and its stilll got towns etc

  3. if you want to do a lot in a short time then a tour is a good option, but be aware that you'll be with a lot of other tourists and may not meet that many "real" Scottish people ... cheaper is to do it yourself by local public transport which will probably mean that you won't get to see so many places, but you might get a better feel for what Scotland is really like and meet some normal ordinary Scots
