How crappy is the $400 Acer Aspire laptop?

If your talking about the Acer Aspire One it is great. The 1.6GHz processor, 120GB harddrive, the media slot, Windows XP, 3USB and the small price tag make this a good laptop. For only 300-350 American you get a great laptop that lacks an optical drive and many ports but, it is perfect for a student. I got my Grandmother one with the 8GB flash memory as a hdd and Linux as an OS. It comes loaded with Openoffice, a  free, office suite that is compatible with Microsoft Office, basic games, and just everything you need for productivity. It is rated excellent and it has a 1GB of memory. For a college student it wuld be perfect. You could just get and external CD-Rom drive, and it is great. Then to take it to class just unplug your Cd drive, printer, etc.., put it in a bag, and your off and running

I've had many people tell me how great Acer is and that it is a very popular and well running machine. I would look at how much memory and mb you want. I paid 549.00 for my dell and it works great. If it has Vista on it though I wouldn't recommend it honestly, I would try to go with XP because Vista has serious bugs.
