Can I go to a local mechanic for oil changes, brake pads, spark plugs, etc? How much should these types of services cost?

  1. if you have the ability, do it yourself. most people who don't lose a lot of money.

  2. Not critical at all they seen to fall apart and break down just as often wither you do the maintenance or not.. And that's a serious experienced answer.

There is NO NEED for a "certified" BMW tech's at the dealership.  The dealer Tech's are usually young kids just starting out in the world.  The real good techs move on to independent shops.  However some stay for the long haul and the big company perks.

  3. Why would you want pay the purchase price of a high line car like a BMW and then take it to an after market repair shop. Dealer mechanics are trained on a specific model of car or truck. The after market only appears to be cheaper, in the long run they are not.Their service programs are designed to empty your wallet, not enhance your image of the car you own.
