How dangerous in terms of crime is Helsinki, Finland compared to other countries like the US or Mexico ?

  1. Knife-carriers and drunken people as well as some s*x offenders are the most common criminals in Finland (alongside some drug addicts & alcoholists), but, it should not be haf as dangerous as it is in the US or in the countries where maffias and serious drug dealers are working. Of course pocket thieves are around at any time, but as a whole Finland is much safer place than either US or Latin America.


  2. I think you will find crime, but it is different due to weather and culture. No one is hanging around outside at a convenience store in Finland during the winter. There are far fewer cars because gasoline is so expensive, so car based get-aways are not there.  On the other hand museum robberies are almost unknown in the US but art thefts by skilled professionals occur in Europe.

    Mexico City is dangerous for identifiable gringos because of low end kidnap ransom attempts -- they expect you to be wealthy. If you're latin and not overdressed you're safe in Mexico City.
