My significant other is deploying in January...I'm just wondering if anyone has come back from there recently or knows anybody over there. Is it extremely dangerous, is the situation any better...I don't really trust the news, plus there are views on both ends of the spectrum. Maybe obama will be elected...that would help. lol.

  1. My close friend spent 15 months in bagdad when it was considered horrible, and he said it wasnt all that bad, and that he was considering going back.

  2. If your other is in the military YOU do not want obama he will cut the legs out from under our military.

    Veteran -USAF

  3. It is dangerous over there for our military, some areas are worse than others though.  Depending on their mos they could have to perform more dangerous tasks and spend more time off the base.  I know you will worry but try not to pay too much attention to the news and try your best to get out and stay busy.  Make sure you have the units family readiness group has your contact info so you can get updates on the unit and get support.

  4. Iraq is a real c**p shoot. I spent a year that involved constant mortar attacks and I have a friend currently over there that just had her convoy attacked. All in all, it could be uneventful or it could be a total nightmare. Just really depends on the cards. War is unpredictable. I'm not a real religious guy, but I pray everyday for this stuff to end.

  5. The situation is much better.

For a while servicemen were dying at a rate of about three a day.  Now it's way less than one.  Things could change, and might get heated as the election approaches but overall Iraq really seems to have calmed down.
