For about a week I was feeling weird and tired and every time I would stand up my heart would beat fast. I went to the hospital last friday and they said everything was perfect and I was good but I have palpitations. The paper they gave me on it didn't really explain it much so I still don't understand it all. I have an appointment with my regular doctor in september about it. But some people are saying its serious and some people are saying its not. I don't know who to believe. Can anybody help me out.

  1. to know the symptoms and consequences of palpitation, please, search google search engine

palpitations are often caused by heavy smoking, alcohol, or large consumption  of caffeine. If u possess any of these conditions, firstly, u must keep a check on them atonce before U see Ur doctor. But, nothing to worry at this moment.

  2. it could be many things from low blood preasure or high

to low iron or potassuim and heart problems

    drink plenty of water,eat right

    have a boost or ensure

    sleep well

see your reg doctor to know forsure the problem

no way to know how dangerous they are untill you see a reg doctor

alot of these things are hard to pick up unless they give you a heart montor to wear

  3. I'm a heart failure patient with a device implanted that records everything my heart does. I have palpitations daily.

Palpitations are an "awareness of heartbeat".  Everybody has them. Most of the time they mean nothing.  The question is if they were caused by an arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat).  Given that you were most likely checked out in the hospital ( it's a standard set of tests), probably a blood work, EKG and maybe and Echo,   it is highly unlikely that you have an immediate problem and most likely do not have a problem at all.

Until you see your regular doctor, take it easy, mild exercise only - it's not time to dig up the garden, put in sidewalk or lift and carry engines around etc.  I strongly suggest you read the attached link.

If you feel faint, dizzy or suddenly out of breath for no reason (gasp for air) - it's time to go back to the hospital ( don't drive yourself). It's a lot better to go and they tell you it's nothing than to not go and possibly end up dead.  The hospital may not be able to detect an arrhythmia unless you are on a machine when you have one.  Your regular doctor will most likely have you wear a halter monitor for a day to several days to see what your heart is doing.

    Read the link.

  4. Palpitations are typically NOT a serious risk to anyone....provided they do not cause side effects (symptoms of dizziness, fainting or nausea) or do not go away in a nominal amount of time.

These irregular heart beats are more often (than not), a side effect of either stress, caffeine, poor hydration, or electrolyte imbalance.  I've had many patients who have had these as a result of their so-called "safe" diet pills, energy drinks, and the like.

Seeing your doctor about this is a wise decision.  He/she will likely repeat your EKG and do some lab work that will include a cholesterol level, Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), electrolytes, and blood count.  Be sure to be FASTING prior to your visit though.

In the meantime, be certain to drink PLENTY of fluids, and you might want to add an aspirin daily as well.  Who knows, the palpitations may stop before your visit!

If you become symptomatic of these, then try to get in sooner, or return to the ER.  Better safe than sorry!

    Best of luck!
