How dangerous is dysentery to some one who lives in The United States?

How dangerous is dysentery to some one who lives in the United States and has Health Care readily available? Is there any long term damage done in dystentery?

It's dangerous if you're a baby....and especially if you're very old or your health is compromised in a serious way.

do you live in the US and are worried about getting it here?

or do you live in the US, are worried about contacting it abroad, then getting treated here?

i have never heard of someone getting dysentery in the US (i live here), but if for some reason you did, i am sure it is easily treated.

i have had several friends get it in india, but they had to be treated there.  they were sick for a week or two, but were fine.
