  1. They differ in many ways.  My main focus would be their differentiation in target market, distribution and advertising.


  2. They are completely different markets and have a diametrically opposed target/segment of the market.

    Toyota want to be solid, reliable, market leaders.  Harley want adventure, busting out and "making a mark" - their markets couldn't have more diverse requirements!

Toyota brags about build quality, JD Power ratings and stupid things like that.  Harley sells image and status as well they should.  One of their latest ads says they have 15 models selling for less than $13,000, but people will think you spent over $35,000.  Kinda ticks me off since I spent over $35k on my Harley and now others get to spend less than $13k and have the same status.
