How deep is the hole?

Question

A spelunker (cave explorer) drops a stone from rest into a hole. The speed of sound is 343 m/s in air, and the sound of the stone striking the bottom is heard 1.34 s after the stone is dropped. How deep is the hole?

S=?,t=1.34s,v=343m/s  S=vt but since echo occurs so s=2s

2s=343*1.34  S=459.62/2 S=229.81metres

The stone accelerates at an increasing 9.8 m/s^2 downwards, and the sound travels at a constant 343 m/s upwards.
