How deep is the water in Olympic Waterpolo?

It's hard for me to believe that the players, especially the goalies are constantly treading water.

  1. The announcer did say it was 10 feet but the players are used to a pool around 6


  2. I am just guessing but I think it might be 13 feet or more feet deep.

  3. They really are. Which is why water polo players need to be in such great shape. They use what you call "egg-beatering". This is the most common form of treading water in water polo. The goalie is allowed to touch down on the bottom...but the other players are not. I'm not sure about the actual depth though. It could also be different for the Olympics. The bottom where the goalie is is obviously shallow enough so that they can touch down when needed.
