  1. A gfci receptacle will not work without a ground,a gcfi works by sensing voltage from hot to ground.A gfci breaker WILL NOT work here either because you do not have a ground in your bathroom circuit.

  2. these people do not understand how gfis work they do not need a ground

the simplY turn off if less current returns on the neutral than left on the hot....because the current did not return there is a ground fault in the circuit  it has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GROUND  IN THE OUTLET

in fact it is code to install a gfi if there is no ground and install grounding type outlet on the load side

that is the reason ALL gfs come with the stickers

    that say "no equipment ground"

  3. he may be reffering to a GFI circut breaker in the panel itself it has to be grounded and if there is no ground at the receptical a GFI breaker can be installed at the panel where there is a ground

  4. A GFCI outlet will not work unless it can sense a ground.  That's the way they are designed.  Check into a GFCI breaker instead.
