How did African Art effect modernism (contemporary art)?

I am not sure about the answer.

No offense but I want to assume this is an assignment, not a research project for an Artist.

  The answer might also depend on the medium, subject matter, origin, and original African "artist". Obviously one might suspect that not all African art relates to decorative masks, or primitive characterizations.

   More to the point of my answer however, might be that our society away from Africa, in an ARTS sense is following or grasping at trends. The same can be said for contemporaries incoprorating Egyptian, Greek art modes, etc, into modernist themes
