  1. Banff Alberta is named after Banffshire, Scotland.

  2. One theory goes back to the naming of the train staions by the Canadian Pacific railroad. In many cases, the stations across Canada were given Scottish place names when no other name from a nearby town was available. Banff is a Scottish county.

As the town grew around the train station, it adopted the name of the train station.

  3. According to the Town of Banff website, the name came about in 1884 when "Lord Steven, a former CPR director, christens the area "Banff" after his birthplace, Banffshire in Scotland. "  The park itself was officially established in 1887 with The Banff springs Hotel opening the following year.  The Town of Banff was officially incorporated as a municipality in 1990, the only one in a National Park in Canada.
