Bill gates bought the rights to OS DOS which was the original oprating system for all computers.So he recieved royalties on every computer ever sold with a DOS driver.And he continues to do so.Apple computers do not have a DOS system so they are currently the only computers that Bill Gates doesnt get any money for,unless someone puts Windows on it.

    Well, it started out with a monopoly because he made the whole DOS OS.

    Then evolved when he started bringing out the personal computer.  He just kept on improving his OS's until they were great, and everyone wanted a piece.

    He makes, oh, I don't know, about 14,000 dollars a minute or something like that, I believe?
