Without all the muscle, he'd be your average fat guy.

The main part of my question is, how do you get your chest super big like his ?

I wouldn't have to work on my stomach that much, If I could build my chest muscles past my fat gut.

WOW is all I have to say.

How did Bolo Yeung's chest get so big ?

Do you think he did mainly chest workouts to get like that ?

Would sit ups be a factor too, in order to get your chest past a fat beer belly ?

  1. He is good, but Bruce Lee still kicked his @ss in Enter the Dragon :)

  2. He was a big guy. Uh, their is a few unorthodox exercises and what not at www.fight-site.com

    Might be worth looking at.

  3. What Seabreez and Dmaud said:  He was a competitive weight lifter.  30 years ago when he was Mr. Hong Kong, body builders primarily trained with the big three power lifting exercises, squats, dead lifts, and bench presses, and much lesser with the Nautilus and Hammer Strength types of machines that many people train with today.

You have to give him some genetic credit, he is meromorphicly muscular, short, thick boned, and broad shouldered, so those big fan shaped pecs were relatively easy to develop.

If you want to look like him, I'd recommend powerlifting, and a book called Power Eating.

  4. According to the official bio page on the net, and Black Belt magazine a more reliable source, actor Bolo Yeung was actually originally a skinny kid who swam from Kowloon to Hong Kong when he was 15.  Originally from communist China, he literally swam for a better life in Hong Kong way back when.  While in Hong Kong, he built up his muscles from working at various labor jobs including construction, while in addition lifting weights to become a powerlifter.  Yeung attained his massive size by the age of 23.  As to his diet, I think he cited mass quantities of different kinds of fish you can buy in Hong Kong.  Allegedly he survived on almost nothing but meat for breakfast lunch and dinner.  The combination of physical labor in addition to strength training for powerlifting, and a protein exclusive diet, is what ultimately gave him his massive strength.  As to why his pectoral muscles are so big, the reason that is, is because while Yeung never used Atlas dynamic tension, he DID read about Charles Atlas.  All people serious about strength training will encounter his work sooner or later.

Atlas explicitly stated in his work the importance of the pectoral muscles as being vital stabilizers, a "counterweight" if you will for the back muscles.  Also, the key to physical strength in the arms, he stated, was strength in the pectoral muscles.  While he did not do dynamic tension, Yeung nevertheless emphasized pectoral and upper back exercises before he built up his arms, adhering to the Atlas philosophy that pecs give arm strength as they serve a mechanical purpose for arm strength.

The reason Yeung's pecs are so massive, and all top bodybuilder's as well actually, has to do with the fact that, while most bodybuilders do not do Atlas Dynamic tension, most nevertheless agree on the principle that the pectoral muscles are vital.  Virtually every champion known, from Atlas himself, to Steve Reeves, to of course the governator, all had massive pecs.  Yeung is no different; indeed, back in his prime he was easily the strongest martial artist on this planet.  If you rejuvenated him to where he was 30 years old, he could probably bull his way trough MMA today, just on raw power.

No one will argue Bolo Yeung had a pretty intimidating pressence; hence the reason he was used as a bad guy in so many martial arts flicks.

    hope that answers the question.

    P.S.

We know Shaolin Kung Fu works, because China is no stranger to strength training.  In China's past, there have been countless "Bolo Yeungs" among their criminals and bandit gangs.  It was men that big, that strong, with a low center of gravity, that Kung Fu was tested against and these were no mere athletes; we are talking cold blooded killers here.  If you think MMA will help you against the likes of a cold blooded killer Bolo Yeung, then, be my guest..... good luck with that.....

  5. The 70 year old actor is 5 foot 6.  That last part helps.  He grew up and competed in weight lifting competitions.  Traditional bench press and other lifts payed out.
