  1. the olympics and human rights do have something in common, because look at all the catastrophes, corruption, and violence that have broken out at past olympics. the safety of the athletes is in the hands of the olympic committe, and with all the cheating with gymnastics and boxing, already, it is not far fetched that it may have something to do with the trench coat, totalitarian, facist/communist government in which the games are in the hands of.

  2. It's a money thing. The country with the money gets the Olympics, that's the rule. Nothing else is considered. Hey, if n**i Germany can get the Olympics, anyone can. It's a money thing.

  3. first of all, it is NOT a money issue. the games have been held in far smaller countries.

the population of china represents 1/5th of the total population of the globe. it's not a politcal thing at all and that is important to remember. the whole idea of the olympics is that many different people can come together regardless of politics and compete in a purely athletic event.

some people did and still do see the olympics as a perfect backdrop for discussions about their human rights issues but the fact of the matter is, that would be violating the very principle of the olympic games. we get politics for 24 other weeks in the year...why not take a break, put our swords away, and compete in good spirit? there is plenty of time before and after the games to discuss these issues (which are serious, i'm not denying that).

president bush said that he almost didn't go to the opening ceremony...and some people wish that he hadn't. but he decided that it was more important to remember the great things that have come out of china, especially regarding the sciences. human rights may not be their strong point but that doesn't mean that they are a complete degenerate state. we can't and shouldn't "punish" them by denying the olympics.

  4. Totally, I mean they invaded a country without any reason.  They've got 200 people in prison without ever charging them (strictly against our Constitution).  They torture people in their own country and around the world.  I mean they really are b@st@rds!

Oh wait, that's OUR HUMAN RIGHTS RECORD.  Maybe we should fix our own $$$$ first???

  5. Ever been to China?? It's one of the safest countries in the world.

  6. Because China had the deepest pockets. It all comes down to the $, my friend.

  7. Because they are NOT related.

Human rights and sports don't mix.

If you have seen how athletes have trained, then you would have banned ALL sports.
