  1. most latin american countries have these problems but Colombia stands out as the home of cocaine drug lords in the 1980s and the ongoing conflict with the guerillas which has been going on for over 40 years (lets not forget there are guerilla/terrorists groups in Spain and Russia too) Colombia is alot safer now, I would say Mexico is the worst latin american country right now

  2. It has Improved in all of those Factors With President Uribe and United States Speech that Covered Drugs and other problems in the nation like the ones that were mentioned in youre question.Don't Let The mass media and News discourage you from seeing Colombia as a bad nation because it really isn't as bad as you might think!.

  3. Ultimately Civil War and not a strong govt......check out wikipedia for all the politics of it.  Most of the Pres. have been assassinated too!

also it has dramatically decreased in kidnappings....poverty and drugs always go hand in hand too.

.....however i was there a few years ago on a missions trip and it's still a beautiful country with beautiful people.  you need to be cautious.....anyways it's not as scary as it seems.
