How did Flordia come up with name for that state? Shouldn't it have been called Juan Ponce de Leon?

  2. Because when Juan Ponce de Leon landed, it was Easter.

    And he actually named it Pascua Florida. Which in englieh means idea of Flowery Easter and refers to the season of Easter.

    So named by Ponce de Leon, a Spanish navigator, in honor of his discovery of the land on Easter Sunday, March 27, 1513, which is called by Spaniards Pascua Florida, "Holy Day of Flowers." He chose this name for two reasons: First, because the country presented a pleasant aspect; and, second, because he landed on the festival referred to. The second reason is generally considered to have more weight.

  4. Named  for (the Feast) of  Flowers, by Ponce de Leon in 1513...!!

  6. It has something to do with the numbers of flowers that were on it when it was discovered... I think....check out wikipedia
