  1. Lots of builders need day laborers. Lots of builders pick up bulk materials at Home Depot. The applicant pool shows up where the employer is known to show up.

  2. That is where building contractors go to get supplies.  So they are there in hopes that the contractors or anyone doing house/yard repair or work will need cheap labor and hire them.

  3. IDK, but one would think between Home Depot and the illegal marches, ICE and the government would know where to look to deport quite a good number!

  4. They hang out there because they are usually looking for work as laborers and construction workers.  Someone who is pulling in to a Home Depot for some lumber to build a new garage, might just need a cheap hand doing it!

You can pick up some tools and lumber, then grab a couple of illegal aliens to give you a hand.  What a country!

EDIT- to echo Ann's sentiments a bit....the fact that it is cliche to see illegals looking for work at Home Depot, and the fact that people are often fearful of illegals "taking their jobs"....sure does fly in the face of the other popular characterization that illegals are lazy people.

  5. Because they can't go anywhere else, to many US citizens begging for money everywhere else.

  6. where have you been? when has the united states become the unofficial spot for hiring illegal immigrants? it's happening more and more everyday.

  7. Because they sell home improvement materials and a lot of contractors and others by their stuff there. So naturally, those who are trying to get hired or be hired will hang out there.

  8. Here Fishy is right on.

If Home Depot is the place you go to find a day's work, why aren't our US-born unemployed men there offering to help you for $8 per hour instead of hanging out in the unemployment line or waiting at home for their unemployment check?  Seems like the illegals are willing to work for their money whereas our citizens want it handed to them.  I don't care where somebody is from...I'd rather give somebody $20 to mow my yard than pay another $20 in taxes to support somebody who doesn't want to work.

  9. When you have special handy skills on construction this is the best place to offer help to all those "do it yourself" aficionados, which most of shopper are.

  10. because people may need help from a hardworking person when they get out of home depot!

  11. Word of mouth, it spreads fast in the barrio.

Remember, you get what you pay for though.

You want to pay $8 an hour to some illegal to help build you a deck, I hope you have good insurance when it falls down and injures someone.

  12. Their skills are limited to the type of work that some contractor shopping there would hire them to do.

Thankfully the town I live in has cracked down on that and will have them fined for loitering, which is what they are doing.

  13. Because it's a place where a person buying supplies may need help.

  14. Well let me see, Who said they were all illegal aliens? Besides they are out trying to get a job, what do you do? sit on answers asking stupid questions? Why don't you go and stand there maybe they will pick you!

  15. Because when we go to buy things to fix/build houses, etc. they are there offering their help. They work fast and good and we know that.
