It seems I have a small infestation of fleas but I live in a first floor flat and no one in my block of flats has pets! How can this be possible?

  1. Hedgehogs are the biggest cause of fleas. You may have a hedgehog problem.

Next time you see a hedgehog in the garden, Blow its Brains out!!!

  2. Flease live on squirrils, rats, rabbits, opossums...it was fleas from rats that caused the black death in europe.  Most critters with fur carry fleas.

Suggest you  get a professional exterminator to evaluate your situation

  3. Many times, fleas are brought into the home from the grass. They live there and jump onto your clothing. They then jump back off when inside.

  4. if you have any greenary nearby your house, it is possible there may be flea darts, or whatever there called. they breed fleas, and fleas get around very easily. so dont be suprised. or maybe any family friends have pets and it had followed along the lines of clothing or something.  its very possible for you to walk past a dog and a flea jump at you .

  5. A previous owner may have had pets, fleas can remain dormant under the skirting boards for many years. Hoover thoroughly and get some flea spray from the vets. You can then spray all around the flat, if you can afford to remove and replace carpets.
