  1. Interesting story!  In the early 1860s, a lobbyist named George M. Willing suggested the name Idaho. He said it was a Shoshone word meaning 'The Sun Comes Up Over the Mountain', or something like that.  After they gave the new territory that name, Willing admitted he'd just made the name up.  Today this is called the 'idahoax'.  8^)
