  1. I think many of Machiavelli ideas are dangerous.

When Catholic became the state religion of Rome, in the fourth century A.D., Jewish equality of citizenship was ended. Over the centuries this eventually led to expulsion of the Jews and the establishment of ghettos in Rome in the 1800s in which the Jews were incarcerated

This holocaust thing partly derived from  Niccolo Machiavelli (1469-1527), a great voice in the revival of the ancient view of political naturalism or power ethics, long suppressed in the Western world by the impact of the early Catholic church.

Machiavelli's most influential work, The Prince, was significant because it helped to mold modern minds and, in turn, modern history. His theme was plain: the ruler "who wants to keep his post must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires."  In other words, do what you need to do to preserve your position and don't concern yourself with what is the ethical thing to do. That's what Hitler did. That's what Mussolini did.

  2. Macchiavelly actually wrote two important books. The first one the "discourses" reflect his political ideas. The second book, called "the Prince" explains what a political leader must do to keep and increas his power. It is a list of rather unscrupulous methods and manipulation techniques. Given Macchiavelli's "republican" (e.g. non-monarchist) ideals, it does probably not reflect his ideas, but is a rather ironic description of the behaviour of powerful people.

  3. hello

Machiavelli used the rise, expansion, and fall of Rome to support his faith or doubts about different forms of regimes. Rome provides such a great example because it was different regimes at different times. From its early beginnings as a monarchy, its growth and development of the republic, the evolution to a principate or oligarchy and all the regimes in between like aristocracy, tyranny and anarchy, Rome stamps into history an insight into the success and failures of each governmental application

Machiavelli in his first book in the Discourses of Livy, explicates the elements of Rome that brought it success and the elements that brought its weakness. Machiavelli found that Rome had a combination of several types of constitutions, sometimes one at a time and sometimes multiple types at one time. He praises the tensions of the elite class and the populace as a means to sift through the corruption to find freedom and good rule. He notes the key to glory is dependant on virtue of the citizens and the rulers and that religion is a means to cultivating virtue and inspiration. Lastly, Machiavelli found the most important part of Roman history that reveals its greatest glory and that is the element of good fortune. Rome was great because it happened to make the right decisions in the right times in history. For Machiavelli and most other political philosophers, Rome is a prized example in its complex development and dissolution
