The policy of world-wide expansion in the United States was described as Manifest Destiny. How did this policy compare to the acquisition of colonial territories by the European countries?

  1. The difference is that manifest destiny was done slowly-person by person, family by family, homesteading on Native American land.  Colonial territories were taken by European countries by force or purchase.


  2. I would say that Manifest Destiny was based on the acquisition of land and natural resources while colonialization was based on the acquisition of trade and natural resources. In both cases the United States and the European colonizers believed that they were divinely inspired and morally correct. I hope that this has been a help to you

  3. Empires, colonialism and the American version, manifest destiny, are the same. They are for the expansion and maintenance of power. The goal is only to build an maintain power. The bankrupt American Empire is well into it's decline. The next will be China's.

  4. i think manifest destiny applied to westward expansion but as for the answer to your question I would say that both were looking for resources that would benefit their own needs like the U.S looked for more land because of population increases and the belief that this was their land for the taking, while europe went to africa and other places to get more land and resources that their populations came to rely on....hmmmm i wish i remembered more but thats what i think the answer would be....
