  1. It was when the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed which was a peace treaty that ended the Mexican-American War (1846–1848). It had the info for what they called the Mexican Cession, in which Mexico ceded 1.36 million km² (525,000 sq miles) to the US in exchange for US$15 million (from then...) and the ensured safety of pre-existing rights of Mexican citizens in the transferred territories, which they basicaly did NOT honor (and to the day!).The United States also agreed to take over $3.25 million ($68 million in 2006 dollars) in debts Mexico owed to American citizens.


  2. As far I know the President (from Mexico) back then, sold the land to USA. But he kept the money for him (as usual there) lol.
