  1. Odysseus arrived in disguise, as well--dressed as a peddler with both weapons and trivial trinkets/jewelry with him.

    Achilles showed interest in the weapons, rather than the women's goods, so Odysseus knew who he was.


  2. Odysseus went there as a peddler with a pack full of feminine things--jewelry and cosmetics and accessories--with a sword and a shield at the bottom.  When he saw that one "girl" (who was probably over six feet tall with extremely broad shoulders) was more interested in the weapons than in the girl stuff, he had his man.
