  1. It wasn't hard for Reagan to grow the economy in 1982, we were in a devastating recession. Truth is Reagan actually raised taxes under his administration for most Americans, although  not at first. His early tax cuts had an effect on America but the GNP, economic growth and jobs were all higher under Carter. His policies doubled our national debt, created the savings and loan crises. Only after the federal taxes exceeded Reagan's tax cuts did our economy begin to recover. Reagan actually lead the country two years where unemployment rates were over 10 percent.

His reckless spending on defense also further wrecked the dollar and the economy, similar to what George W. Bush is doing today. It made our country less safe, and increased invidivual burdens on the American taxpayer, and consumer.

  2. Reagan was involved with the 1981 Economic Recovery Tax Act (ERTA), which cut all income taxes by 25 percent, reduced the top income tax rate from 70 percent to 50 percent, and indexed tax rates to offset the impact of inflation.

As a result, beginning in the fall of 1982, the economy began 60 straight months of growth, the longest uninterrupted period of expansion since the government began keeping statistics in 1854. Nearly 15 million new jobs were created during this period, and just under $20 trillion worth of goods and services, measured in actual dollars, were produced. ♥
