  1. weren't there more than one "blue bombers" too?

  2. Each team played in different leagues originally so at the time that each team was formed they were the only team in their league with the name. When the 2 leagues joined together the teams kept their names. Saskatchewan spelled their name as one word while Ottawa was 2 words (Rough Riders).

  3. Many years ago the Ottawa Rough Riders and the Regina Roughriders (notice the difference in spelling?) belonged to 2 different leagues.  The Regina 'Riders changed their name to Saskatchewan in 1950 and a few years later the 2 separate leagues merged and both teams were allowed to keep their deeply entrenched nicknames.
