  1. stop winking cause it's a phallic symbol

  2. Freud theorised that there were three major scientific developments in mans history. 1 The theory that the earth is not at the centre of the universe 2 The theory of evolution 3 And humbly he chose his own (very humble of him) theory that maybe we aren't in control of our mind to the extent we may want to belive.

What all these theories had in common was the humbling of mans place in the universe (humiliation of man). Maybe we aren't as great as we would like to believe

But what really has influenced us is proven by the fact we still talk about his theories. He asked questions where there were no (and probably still aren't) answers

Wow! Two turned down thumbs. Must be reaction formation...

Freud scientific - not at all, Freud egotistical - definately, Freud correct - not often but many of his theories are starting to be proved one way or the other, Freud practical - Freuds theories are not often used in the practise of Pschology: But Freud have an influence on us today, how can you possibly say he doesn't?

  3. Crusader  - it was only NINE people.

  4. By coming up with a cure for histeria.

  5. You always hear people talk about how men drive fast cars and big trucks because they are lacking something or how these same items are just an extension of their owners penises...that is Freudian..

  6. Freud's theory doesn't influence today because we now know that he based his entire theory on a study of only 40 people and all of them were female! Not a very good way to come up with a "theory". Sorry.

  7. Freud has been given credit for childhood sexuality and the unconscious mind, but his Psychoanalysis has been attacked by modern psychologists and psychiatrists for really no good reasons in my opinion.

While Freudian Psychoanalysis is today scoffed, Freud never goes away and is constantly being 'rediscovered'.

  8. Freud's theory is not really used in psychology today. It is still being taught in textbooks merely to reference the patient and therapist relationship. Many of his theories include the Oedipus Complex, the unconscious mind, psychosexual development, repression...etc. I believe that SOME of his ideas are still used and incorporated in therapy today but most of it is pretty useless. I mean come on - p***s envy?!

  9. The Public Relations department is a living, breathing walking example of Freudian theory. The PR career was invented Freud's Nephew Edward Bernays, in a way to subvert the american public to "buy" their way to fufill their  unconscious desires. He single-handedly removed the taboo against women smoking, therefore opening up the other half of the market. He used subversive marketing techniques (which he is the first ever to develop) to coerce the public into buying subconscious symbols and images to fufill their empty lives (all attributed to his uncle's insane theory)
