  1. José Gervasio Artigas, Antonio Lavalleja, Manuel Oribe...and lots of brave men who sacrificed themselves for freedom. Now my country is free thanks for those men who gave their lives for the country they loved.

25th August 1825- Día de la Independencia

18th July 1830 - Jura de la Constitución

Unfortunately, the main "procer", Artigas, was exiled, whe spent his last years in Paraguay, with the very known "***** Ansina".

    Saludos! Bye!

Thank you for interesting in my country (despite I didn't explained your question as you're requesting)

  2. Uruguay, which won it's primary independence from Spain in 1811 under the leadership of Jose Gervasio Artigas , was annexed by Portuguese Brazil in 1821. After a group of Argentine sympathizers called "Treinta y Tres Orientales" met in a part of the province recently liberated from the Portuguese, they redeclared their independence on August 25, 1825. Great Britain, in order to protect their commercial interests protected help broker a deal which Brazil and Argentina would recognize Uruguay's independence. Uruguay was seen as a buffer state that sat between the two most powerful nations in South America.
