Question:

How did YOU improve your golf game?

I have been playing a lot of golf this year (multiple rounds per week) and continue to struggle. I cannot seem to get any consistency in my shots even though I'm taking lessons. What I would like is to know how (what steps, training program, etc.) you took to improve your game?

I would like to ask that 20 handicaps or better only answer this questions.

Thanks

  1. The best thing you can do is get some good coaching.

    Then practice a lot.

  2. Lessons are great, but I also recommend going and getting properly fitted for all of your equipment. Most people don't realize that you can get fitted for more than just your driver & your irons. You can also get fitted for your putter and your ball. Obviously, it's expensive to do all @ once...so start with the clubs in the bag that maybe you struggle with the most. You'll be surprised at how much being "fit" will help! Good luck!

  3. practice!

and I do like practicing as much as I can on the Wi or PS3 as well.  You can practice some course management on that! :)

  4. hey airdevil, im a scratch golfer and the quickest way to improve your strokes and your game is to get practice like a pro. or i would just get lessons. however, if you dont want to spend money, DO NOT MOVE YOUR HEAD AT ALL AND DO THE DRILL IM ABOUT TO TELL YOU! take a headcover and place it under ur left armpit take 3/4 swing and do not let the club  head cover fall out. this will force you to stay on plane throughout your swing. the right plane + keeping your head still= amazing consistency and better shots. hope this helps. keep swingin!!!

  5. practice repetition is the key to consistency and patience. what I did that I limit the number of rounds of golf and used that time at the driving range, once I felt comfortable with my swing (results) I play a round of golf and made a mental note on what I need to work on at the driving range. the area in your golf swing I suggest that you talk it over with your instructor. let him/her show you in slow motion and you try it. another thing, don't beat yourself up over bad shots

  6. I have the same problems with my consitency and I would suggest you to go to the pro shop and ask for lessons at ur personal golf course. that or u could go to a callaway shop and they have a fitting area where they will tell u what specific changes that they think u should do but this is my opinion and i cannot tell u what to do it is completely up to u whether u take this opinion seriously or not so good luck and i hope u get better with ur golf game

  7. I believe you need to find a main thing to work on in your golf game for every shot (for example I concentrate on my routine for every shot). Once you have worked that out, practice on the range but make sure you have plenty of practice on the actual course. I play off a 2.9 handicap and this is what really helps me.

    Good Luck.

    Have a good one...

  8. The best way to improve is to practice. However, it is much better if you understand why your swing produces a certain result. You have to know what causes a slice, a fade, a hook, a draw, a high flight, low flight, etc.

Practicing with a pro is also good. The are some pros, however, who merely tell you HOW to swing. They do not or cannot tell you WHY you should swing that way. For instance, a pro will teach you the swing that will produce a fade. He will tell you to open your stance, square the clubhead, and steepen your swing. He, however, will not explain why such swing produces the fade. You have to know physics behind a fade such that you can make adjustments to your swing to produce it.

I read a lot of golf books and golf magazines. I avoid articles that recommend a certain swing, but do not explain why that swing produces the result. I like articles that explain the principles behind a recommended swing.

I enjoyed reading an article that showed the characteristics of balls in the market. It explained how ball construction produces spin, roll, distance, etc.

Once you understand the physics behind the swing process, you will be able to understand the WHY of an undesirable swing and it will enable you to know the HOW to correct it to produce a desired result.

Learning the physics and mechanics behind a swing is how I improved my game.

  9. Practice. Practice. practice repetition is the key to consistency.  Lessons while a great start are not the only answer to consistency. Consistency comes from repetition. Hours and hours of Practice on the range and hours of practice on shots from 100 yds in. plus Putting drills. Its a constant thing if you really want to be top of your game. I am on the range at least 2 hrs per day......90 % of that is on 8 Iron through SW. I only hit driver about 3 times a day on the range. another hour on putting drills and 18 holes a day minimum.

  10. Wii Golf

  11. Try getting a pro instructor and take lessons somewhere

  12. get a really good coach who will work with u on your game at least 3 times a week for few hours. get some drills and do them a lot. play golf with good players will help too, single handicap ones. practice hard but make sure u are doing it correctly.
