Well, I took about a year's worth of lessons when I was 7 or 8, but that's not how I consider how I learned to play.  It was a lot more natural.  A few years later, I had a friend who was a little bit better at guitar than I was, and we used to jam together.  We'd learn songs, and I'd play the easier parts while he played the more complex parts.  This was in the early 90's so we were playing a lot of Guns n' Roses, Metallica, Black Sabbath, and stuff like that, where the guitar parts are riff-based, and the riffs are fairly simplistic.  I think the bast way to learn guitar is with someone else.

  4. Majority was from lessons (and I still take) from when I was 12-now (I'm 19). In between not having a teacher way back when, I stumbled upon a really good website and book to get my feet just a little off the ground. I still use those as second teachers though.

    But it was fairly easy to pick up...maybe because I played ukulele before so I was familiar with stringed instruments.
