How did Yahoo decide what sort of faces to use on Avatars?

None of them look like anyone I know, either.

Do you think they used composite photos of real faces?

I imagine a graphic artist created them.

They are ugly, and force you to be pigeon-holed by gender and race which is exactly why I don't have one. I'd rather be a panda.
