How was domestic flights cost in the 1970's on airlines?

  1. A lot lower in nominal terms, but when you adjust for inflation and wages, far more expensive than today.   In real terms the price of flying has dropped dramatically, but then again seat width and legroom in economy class has generally done so too.


  2. It was $99.00 round trip from Los Angeles to Honolulu and additional $5.00 for each additional island you wanted to visit, as long as you bought your inter-island tickets in advance.

  4. It depends when in the 70s; the airlines were deregulated in 1978.  Before that, minimum and maximum airfares were set by the government.

    I remember flying round trip from LA to San Francisco for about $50.
