So yeah, I'm curious on how everyone is paying for college.

I got Stafford Loan and something called FL prepaid, I also qualify for workstudy.

My parents applied for the PLUS loan, and were denied. So I got the extra 6k in Stafford.

However, even with that, I am about 4k short.....and that's for the 4 basics: Tuition, Room, Board, and Books.

I'm having trouble getting a private loan because my parent's credit sucks, and no one else in my family will cosign for me. They don't think I will graduate.....I'm determined to prove them wrong.

So how did/are the rest of you paying for college?

  1. If your parents were denied a PLUS loan because of their credit, the school can (and should) offer you a PLUS loan in your  name.  This isn't done often though, so the schools fin aid office may need to be reminded they can do this.

  2. What about Florida Bright Futures? It should carry over from CC to a state university.

  3. Well, I started college late and had to take out student loans. After i turned 23 and i filled out my fafsa form I was elegible for a pell grant which paid my entire tuition. I should be getting pell grants until graduate in two years. look into pell grants, check out the requirements. If youu have to emancipate yourself from your parents legally, so you will quilify. but you should be able to get student loans to cover the the whole deal if not. check out sallie mae, they do most student loans, and are very happy to take anyones money.

    good luck!
