  1. He did the exact same thing as Elton Brand did 2 the clippers.

  2. Utah offered him $66 million for 6 years. However, Utah was charged with tampering or something along those lines.

  3. the cavs could have kept boozer for one more season on his rookie contract ($600,000 cheap!), but probably would have lost him to unrestricted free agency the next year.

so, they decided to let him become a restricted free agent with the agreement that boozer would then sign a long term deal with the cavs.

unfortunately boozer reneged on his "agreement" and signed with the Jazz. the cavs were simply out muscled by utah with whatever ridiculous amount of money the decided to throw at booz.

neither boozer, nor the jazz did anything illegal, but boozer's actions could be considered unethical.

in my opinion, cleveland just got duped. just like they will be in 2010 when lebron skips town.

  4. Who cares.  His name rocks.

  5. He pulled an "Elton Brand".

Basically he had a "player option" in his contract. So he agreed that if the Cavs would make him a unrestricted free agent, letting him out of his then current contract, he would sign a long term deal with them, he gave his word to the Cavs. Once he opted out he bolted for Utah and their six-year, $68 million deal.

  6. What an interesting question, I hope someone with great knowledge on the subject answers this question.

  7. free agency... i do believe he opted out of the final year of a contract to "give the cavs more cap space" then got a better offer from utah and took it

But that may not be correct... I am not a big basketball person, more football and baseball.
