    Don't forget boys wore dresses at first and then short trousers and girls had to wear hair down and shorter skirts until they reached the right age to graduate to grown up dress.


  2. Back them young boys wore dresses.  It was considered fashionable.  And they kept them in dresses until they were "breached".  Short pants was something only boys wore and not men,

    I have pictures of my great grandfather when he was three years old, and he's wearing a dress!  Nowadays people would think that doing that would cause permanent damage to a generation of young boys.  Somehow society survived.
