  1. The term "cottage cheese" is believed to have originated because the simple cheese was usually made in cottages from any milk leftover after making butter[1]. The term was first used in 1848.

  2. i guess they took one look at it and said cottage cheese..

  3. maybe it was first invented in a cottage

  4. It was a dairy by-product made when other things were being made with the milk.  Because of it's consistency, the fact that it would sour and not be kept very long, it was considered a waste, and was given to poor people to basically lived in cottages, in Europe many, many years ago (before refrigeration).  It resulted after the milk was separated and cultered for cheese, and wasn't considered as desirable or as rich as traditional cheeses.

  5. hahaha. good question :P

Cottage cheese first made its début by accident, when heat turned curdled ordinary milk into soft, moist lumps that tasted good. Farmers in Europe during the Middle Ages made the cheese in their cottages.
