  1. This is a question that has stumped scientists ever since dinosaur fossils were first discovered. There are many theories as to how the dinosaurs became extinct. This page presents some of the most popular thoeries. Keep in mind that there is no absolutely proven theory. Noone knows for certain exactly why and how the dinosaurs became extinct.

Probably the most popular theory right now is the Asteroid Theory. According to this theory a large asteroid or comet collided with Earth about 65 million years ago. Scientists think that such a large collision would throw so much dust into the air that sunlight would not be able to shine and plants and animals would die. The dramatic changes in climate that resulted from this huge collision were too much for the dinosaurs. They were not able to survive.

Another theory that could explain how the dinosaurs became extinct is volcanic activity. A huge increase in volcanic activity at around 65 millions years ago could have pumped so much ash into the air that it blocked out the sun killing the dinosaurs.

Some scientists believe that there was a severe ice age. Throughout Earth's history there have been many ice ages. The last one ended about 10,000 years ago. A very severe ice age could have changed temperatures and frozen a lot of Earth's water. The dinosaurs would not be able live under such conditions and that is how the dinosaurs became extinct.

It has also been suggested that desease killed off the dinosaurs. A very deadly and contagious desease may have circulated among the dinosaurs forcing them to become extinct.

Still yet another theory is that the Earth just gradually changed in climate over a long time period and the dinosaurs were not able to adapt to the cooler, dryer climate.

There are probably other theories as to how the dinosaurs became extinct. One thing is for certain. All dinosaurs that we know of are extinct. How did all the dinosaurs become extinct? Maybe one of these theories is the right answer. However, it is difficult to explain why all the dinosaurs died out but many other animals survived. Perhaps one day we will know for certain how the dinosaurs became extinct. Until then we must speculate and continue the search for the answer to this great mystery of nature.

  2. due to the depletion of flora and fauna species became extinct and so as dinosaurs

  3. They could not adjust to the chages in their surroundings

                   OR

    everthing is is god's hands.

    Inika.

  4. There are so many theories, but most accepted one is of hitting the asteroid to the earth thus changing the atmosphere drastically and killing all of them.

  5. There were waves of other creatures, that suffered mass extinctions long before the dinosaurs on Earth.

Our world explodes from within, every so often -- most life on the top/mantle/crest gets well, distrupted by the cauldren at our core. Meteors hit the Earth all the time, but that would never-ever-ever affect the deep sea life.. but of course, molten lava spewing from 100s of fissures underneath the water and across the land-mass, cracking and dividing tectonic plates along the way, would make it very tough to live... and the 1% that did/does, regenerates everything.

  6. It is believed that a meteor fell into the gulf of mexico a very long time ago and de-particularized O2 which is what we breath and sufficated the larger animals, raised temperatures.  Basically made large animals go extinct.

Another idea is of religion where the flood, and the change in climate killed the dinosaurs.  Very simple.

Another is that the ice age killed them.

  7. according 2 d theory only d fittest survives . it is said that one asteroid

felt on d earth and because of that explosion all d animals on d earth Bcame extent .But i dont thinks so because asteriod can cause destruction only in certain area . According to me asteriod explosion must have result in formation of some harmful gas[asspecially

methane because of carbon in air combining with hydrogen in the asteriod]this may have resulted in formation of malnutrition dinosaur babies and indirectly according 2 the theory dinosaurs must have extented.

  8. The ate each other because of extreme hunger thats all,

  9. well some people believe that a giant meteor hit the earth and blocked the sun causeing an ice age which then killed all the plants  the since there were no plants all the plant eating animals died  and since all the plant eating animals  died the meat eating animals didnt have much 2 eat so they died and they didnt live happily ever after. the end

  10. The scientists thought a big meteor blocked out the sun so all the plants died. That's when the plant eaters died because they didn't have anything to eat. Then the meat eaters didn't have any plant eaters to eat because they had died. And then a few surviving dinosaurs were surviving and were wiped out when the meteor hit.
