  1. (silly answer) A changing room in back?.. in that GAP of time... He took a number, for Room 2... and, he went from being a Homo Something or Other to 'Homo Sapiens'.  Man was then 'changed' forever by his new look, and suddenly... he was fabulous.

(Serious) Now, if you think about it.. you can see that war, eating other people, stealing kids & unspeakable crimes today are really nothing new (and are quite animalistic from reproductive/gene-sharing, to annihilating neighboring populations, to enslavement)... to diseases, mosquito bites, lions/predators, tsunamis and wild fires and earthquakes and heavy rains/flooding at streams/rivers, anywhere Humans lived -- they might have died violently, over 1,000s of years and DID... which is why people left, grew to look differently, that survived in Europe, Africa, Japan, China, Continents.. and over weather & geographic differences...

  2. evolution

  3. I am going to assume that by "early man" you mean early Homo sapien.

I am going to make the argument that changing early man to modern man required knowledge and teaching.

Man unlike our closest cousins has the amazing ability to pass down information to following generations. However, you may be thinking chimps and gorillas do pass down survival techniques. I would say yes however the greatest distinction is that man teaches and our closest relatives simply learn by observation.

So keeping that distinction in mind one can begin to see that when generation one discovers an important survival technique it will teach that to generation two. This progression will continue until something better something better comes along. Each generation will add to these teaching with their own discoveries, and so Man's knowledge base will increase. He will invent fire, the wheel etc. He will also discover metal work, math etc.

    I hope this helps
