How did federer do that?

Federer had once taken a 6-0 set from ivo karlovic and the few matches i have seen of karlovic i don't think he had lost a set other than in a tiebreak then how come federer took a 6-0 set from such a big serving guy who serves like 3 aces in a game and he didn't win a single game in a set!!
