How did gangs ever become "cool" in popular culture?

Question

Murder, rape, extortion, communities ruled by fear, young boys forced to join and threatened with death if they leave, drug addiction, racism, destruction of families, irresponsible fathers, innocent children killed...all of these things are prevelant and even glorified by gangs.

So how in the world did gangs ever become so cool and hip in modern pop culture?

I don't know...I'm asking.

After playing one of the popular gang games I found it fun. For a game. If I was that person in the game I couldn't make it through life with knowing what I've done

I have to agree with the person below me. And also I think that thier is a sort of self confidence tough guy part to it
