How did global warming and oil prices get on the national agenda? Who or what put these issues on?

One, people will eventually have to recognize, that whatever it is that people want to call it, that all the pollution and waste that we create will have some effect on the evironment because our earth has various systems of purifying itself, which is an accepted scientific fact. Second oil prices most certainly have an effect on most of the nation's citizens so thus it is on the national agenda. Furthermore the raise in oil prices as shown in the findings of a government commission, are a result of specualation that occurs within the United States of America.

Because people are worried and scientists, politicians, rich people, etc want to make money. So, what better way to make money than prey on the fears of others? Who ever said the global cooling thing in the 70s is correct. In the course of 30-40 years, science has shown that the world was cooling and warming, something that in history it has taken millions of years. The basic thing is, we do not know what we are talking about. Science tries to prove something, then they are proved wrong, so they flip their theories.

In my opinion it started in the 70's when 'global cooling' was the scare of the day.  Now, it's basically just used as a scare tactic to get richer men richer.  I mean, seriously - if Al Gore really cared about his cause he'd be doing more than driving Suburbans and Lincolns to his speeches and flying around in private jets.  Let's just hope there's enough people that are still willing to stand up, like in the children's story where the little girl stands up and says the emperor has no clothes.  As for the oil prices - they affect everything from foreign trade to food prices, so that's a lot more relative than 'climate change'.

They're really not on the national agenda, unless you count the Republican or Democrat Propaganda Machines.  

Every election cycle politicians on both sides make false promises to do something about these kinds of issues and then don't do squat.  

They've been talking about oil and alternative energy for what?  30+ years since Carter bungled handling the middle east.  Since then both parties have control the majority of government and produced nothing.
