How did he pull this off????

In my calculus class today my teacher showed us a magic trick. Now, I know that it was all a distraction, or sliding of the hand, or whatever technique... but what?

He asked a girl to pick a card from the deck (card faces down) ... (and he showed us the whole deck before the trick). Then, he cut the deck (obviously cut it so he wouldn't shuffle)... but the TRICKY part... he was like is this your card?? ... it wasn't. then he did it again... nope. THEN, he said well... and pulls up the overhead projecter screen and there is her card on the white board.

Any of you magic people know how he did it? I'm just curious. I find it facinating.

  1. I'm a magician. He already had the card on the projector, and he "forced" the card. For more info on "forcing" cards just google it.

If you don't want to google it, I can somewhat explain it.

I have a deck, I can only do trick shuffles (a shuffle that doesn't change the order of the cards). I know that your 20 years old (I just made that up) so I put the card that I want you to pick, and the card on the projector 20th from the top of the deck. Then I say "How old are you?" then you say "20" so I go down 20 cards and show her the card. Then I shuffle. Then I show you cards that I KNOW aren't your card. Then I turn on the projector and.... Walla!!

  2. idk but that sounds weird he could have had the girl in on the trip

  3. He could of planned it out with the girl.

  4. u will never find out a magisions trick never

  5. i'm a magician too...

yes he did a "force" but it wasn't exactly as what as the person above stated.

this is how your instructor did it:

    1. there was already a card on the whiteboard (he out it ahead of time so none of you can see that he put it there). Ex. he put the Ace of hearts.

    2. then he goes to proceed with the trick. first he asks a girl to "pick" a card. magicians have to conviction and the processes to make you think that you were the one who picked the card when in fact, it was him who choose what the girl should pick. that's how "FORCE" works. the magician forces a subjet to choose the card.

there are  a lot of ways to "force" a card. one way is to asked a spectator to say "STOP" when he wants the card and then the magician does a perfect timing to sTOP at his own chosen card.

so when he asked the girl to pick a card, it was actually the magicians choice. So obviously she picked the ace of hearts...

    3. then the magician does some "rituals" as if doing some mystical things...

    4. then he showed that the "chosen" card was in the white board.

    *AMAZEMENT*

    ^_^

  6. All the cards were the "same" number

as the one under the screen. <}:-})

  7. no

  8. .idk.

  9. that sounds so cool!!!!

maybe he had a projection of the card on the overhead already?!

or maybe there is this thing where you have to puct the card on the projector?!

  10. Yea I wonder LOL! I think thats why they call it magic the answer is not needed Im SOL i have no clue!

  11. Another way of doing that is, he has two decks of cards.

It's hard to do, but is manageable.

He put each card in deck one into a different places all over the room.

He then memorizes where each card were.

Then he uses deck two for someone to pick the card.

That way, it could be as random as ever.  No need to "Force" the card.  He could even throw the deck in the air and let you grab a card.

After that, he somehow manage to see what it was.

Shuffle the deck, take out any card to show you, you'd say "no, that's not it"

Then he just move to where he hid the card, take it out or show it, you'd be amaze.

The card ends up on the projector was just a coincident.  If you pick other card, it might even end up under your seat.

The hard part is to remember where each cards is hidden.

  12. WOW! maybe he had the card not on the projector but on the mirror part??

    idk thats wierd.!
