How did it all go wrong for Kaka
Kaka joined AC Milan in 2003 when he was just twenty one, and hardly anyone expected him to have the impact that he had. Especially the Sao Palo staff, since then they might have not sold him for a fee of just eight and a half million, which seems like peanuts now, when you think about it.
Kaka was initially bought to be a future replacement for Rui Costa, but only a month later he was performing at a spectacular level. His performances were highly impressive and resulted in him being moved to the starting lineup almost immediately by the manager, Carlo Ancelotti.
He was justified in doing so, since the inclusion of Kaka was a very significant event in Milan’s season. He became the key fundamental player that dictated the game for the Italian team. They went on to win the Scudetto that season and made it to the quarter finals of the Champions League. In only thirty appearances he scored ten goals at Milan.
As the seasons progressed so did Kaka’s influence and impact on the AC Milan squad and their style of play. He was a part of the Milan side that reached the finals of the 2005 Champions League, which they eventually lost. In 2007 seoans however, Kaka helped steer AC Milan to another appearance in the final of the Champions League, which Milan ended up winning.
Kaka produced some unforgettable performances that season in the Champions League, his best however came against Manchester United. With those two legs, he seemed to be a player in his own league as there was no other player on the pitch who could have matched Kaka that night. He left defenders for dead, scored goals and created some as well. He was fairly consistent throughout the season and made it easy for fans to love him even more than they already did.
The same year he not only won the Champions League but his terrific displays and performances also helped him win the Ballon d’Or and the FIFA Player of the Year award as well.
The following 2008 and 2009 season were not as great as 2007, but he still performed significantly well, which led to him maintaining his position as the fans favorite and the image for AC Milan.
In January 2009, Manchester City made a ridiculous bid of over a hundred million pounds for Kaka and offered him a contract that would make him a millionaire. The AC Milan player turned down the offer saying he wished to stay at Milan and play in the San Siro forever and maybe even someday captain the side. These words made people think that perhaps he was destined to become a legend at Milan and follow in the steps of Maldini.
In June 2009 however, only a few months after he made all those promises, he was sold to Real Madid for seventy million pounds, leaving all the Milan fans heartbroken and confused.
Kaka could have repeated the same statements he gave the City management, but he saw the fame and fortune he could have made in Milan and decided to take that offer and leave the millions of fans who loved him through the thick and thin confused and disgusted by the player they once loved.
This just proves that it is close to impossible to find loyalty in the modern game of football and Kaka is one of the best examples of that fact. Many assumed he was better than most players but his actions just proved that he was like any other player. He just wanted a bigger spotlight to perform under.
