  1. How about talking about something that has happened in the last 50 years?

  2. It wasn't just America...pretty much the whole world used to think like that. Hey, in some parts of the world it is still like that.

  3. Its a lot easier to control 1/2 the people than the whole lot of us. A government only needed to manipulate the Men...and as we know we are probably easier to manipulate than our better half's:-)

Giving woman the vote made it a lot more challenging for governments to make laws and control the masses.

It wasn't bought about by American's per say but by Governments.

    Governments suck the fat one!

  4. You could say that about alot of things. The way blacks were treated were, of course, abhorrant.  Ignorance and that's "just the way it is" are two excuses.

  5. That was ages ago & its not the same anymore, so i wouldn't dawn on it.  And it was not just this country that was sexist. It was everywhere.

  6. Humans.

    The worst animal on Earth.

  7. That is old news and has been corrected.

  8. A lot of the pioneers had it very hard making the land liveable and women weren't as strong physically as men so men made a lot of the rules of the country and various counties.  It related more to land claims and things that men were involved with so they voted and the "little woman" stayed home and took care of the home. Plus a lot of the Biblical principles were misinterpreted and many thought women were second to men.  So it took women a long time to get the vote and fight for their rights.  It is still a fight today to break through the "glass ceiling" in business and in politics.  These concepts are still around today and  we fight for our rights in many benign ways daily.  How many women are in Congress, how many women are in charge of large corporations etc.  The fight goes on.

  9. Most used the bible to rationalise that and many other stupid prejudices.

I think in the future many people might as why we didn't allow women to run around topless like men did in the year 2008.

Think about it, it's all comes down to stupid traditions, religious beliefs and b.s. morals.

We still have a long way to go.

  10. Seeing they were responsible for prohibition I'm still not sure it was the right thing to do

  11. I believe it came from the biblical precedent that women should be subservient to their husbands.  Then the rational would be that whatever the man voted, the woman would accept his decision.  I'm pretty sure that is where it came about.

  12. because the constitution clearly states "all MEN are created equal". didn't you learn that in government class!?

  13. I can't quite answer that in the American-context.

But - as such - in general - in the past - almost everything was sick.

Because that was how society was and it was acceptable. Now everything has changed and so when you look back it seems so - sick - and repulsive.

Women were first seen as just - well - someone who had babies and looked after the house. With no rights or brains.

    Colour discrimination was normal.

Colonisation of countries were considered as helping them. Africa, India, etc - people invading and discriminating was considered normal because anyone not-white was considered a barbarian that needed to be made 'civilised'

    Hunting was a sport.

Slavery was acceptable for the rich. More the slaves - the richer they were - status symbol. You could 'own' a person.

Politics was considered the highest form of mental powerness. That someone could be smart enough to run an entire country. Now it's just seen as something back-stabbing and dirty.

    Homosexuality was frowned upon.

    Caste system existed.

    See? Society has been evolving.

What was right once is now wrong. Thankfully.

Society as such still has more to evolve.

I'm just relieved that such backward thinking isn't common any more and is now looked upon as 'sick'.

    :)

  14. -If you hadn't skipped history classes, you wouldn't be here asking stupid questions...

  15. women are irrational beings who still should not have a right to vote.  They belong in the home caring for their husband's every needs, being submissive to him, and raising the children, cleaning the house and never complaining.

  16. It's that old stereo type that women are too caring and would vote just to be nice.

People actually thought they would vote for the "cute" candidate instead of familiarizing themselves with the issues.

Also , it was thought if women voted , they would abolish alcohol , isn't that absurd ?

A prohibition would never work in the U.S. regardless of whether women voters wanted it. It would only give rise to rum runners and gangsters , heck they may even elect one as President.

Oh well , we won't have to worry about that if we just keep the choices down to a couple of candidates. Chocolate and fudge.

  17. The sad truth is, we have no clue why they did that, it seemed normal to them. Luckily we're in a fairer nation.

  18. America is a Conservative country. Believing that if nothing changed it would be ok. In the beginning Men were thought as superior to women and they didn't want to change that.

It's not that they are sick. They just don't like change.

  19. Voting was based on owning land.  Women initially could not own land.  That changed later, and opened the way for women and blacks to vote.

What you need to look at is that it was not just Americans.  Our roots came from Europe.  Our laws in the early part of our nation were based on European laws.

No country is perfect and all evolve.  There are countries today where women cannot vote, and often men too.

  20. Till 50 years ago women did not have any rights in America nor blacks. So they are just modernized themselves and laugh at middle eastern "why women do not have any rights" its because middle east is kind of 50 years behind just give them  more time.

  21. If you think about it, America is not the only country with a sexist and/or unfair past...Germany, Italy, Russia, look at their history!

  22. I thought women always had the rite to vote

then Michelle Obama taught me otherwise

  23. Women were thought of as inferior to men. As simple as that.
