Question:

How did my Sunburst Molly have babies?

I had 2 Mollys in my tank for about a year, one died and six months later I found a baby molly. Three weeks after that I found another. How if the male died? How big are the babies when born, the 2 are about the size of Neons. How should I take care of them? The other fish (3 black skirt tetra, and 2 peppered Cory cats) don't mess with them. Please answer all question. The babies also appeared after a partial water change and filter change.

  1. you can feed then brin shrimp eggs.  It normally comes at pet food store. "baby fish food" .  It comes in a little tube with a tiny spoon, to spoon some in.  If you are chang like me, what also works is grabbing some fish flakes.  Dry your hands as well as possible.  Rub a a few flakes as long as you can til itturns to dust literally.  Then you can feed a tiny amount of that.  It worked fine for my random baby fishies.

  2. when a boy really likes a girl...

  3. you can also feed them on liqifry which is what i feed my molly and guppy fry on,

  4. Mollies, like several other species of livebearers, can go on having babies for many months after being bred by the male. this is because the female can store the male's sperm for future use when she ovulates for the next batches.

The newborn fry can be quite small when born, so that you hardly see them unless you are looking very carefully for them. If they are as big as neons they are not newborn. The rest of the brood were probably eaten shortly after birth before you were aware of their presence, by the black skirt tetras, with these two managing to hide well enough not to get eaten. They also managed to stay out of your sight in the process until you disturbed their hiding by doing the water & filter change.

Just keep on feeding your fish normally. The babies eat the same food as the others by the time they are that big.
