I'm sorry for your loss, and assume you need to find out what happened. If it was a sudden death, the county coroner would have had to do an examination and make a finding. So that would be the place to start your search. If the death was by misadventure (as opposed to natural causes) then there would be a police investigation and that would be the next step.

if you really want to know and are of age then you can do two things request his death certificate from the state he died in or if he died at a hospital then you can request his medical records and examine them
